Minutes of Asha Seattle meeting on 02/04/09

Attendees: Nagendra, Srijan, Vijay, Vibhavaree, Ken, Vikram, Kavita, Pooja, Manohita, Shohag, Pratibha, Vijay, Satyajit, Mike, Purna and Asha.

 

Agenda Item 1: Marathon 2009

Presenter: Vijay

 

  • No minimum fundraising restriction for participants this year, to encourage participation from runners.
  • Runners to pay a registration fee of $ 25 towards Asha administrative expenses.
  • Rewards for runners who can raise money:
    • For half marathon
      • $300 - Finisher’s T-Shirt
      • $650  - Finisher’s T-shirt + free registration free
    • For full marathon
      • $1000 and above - Finisher’s T-shirt + free registration
  • Asha Seattle has a tie up with Seattle feet and runners can attend coaching by professionals for a fee of $100 or they can attend group running events with experienced runners.
  • Miles4smiles google group has been established for the participants.

 

Discussions was about removing the minimum fundraising amount by the participants. Concerns were that participants may get relaxed towards fundraising.

 

Action Item: Vijay to provide more information on fund raised in past marathon events with or without minimum fundraising pledge by the participants.

 

Decision status: This item was more about event updates, voting was not required.

 

 

Agenda Item 2: Vikasana Bridge School for Child Labour Rehabilitation

Presenter: Manohita

 

Purpose: Budget approval with approx 10% increment

 

  • Figures for last year’s amount was not handy and the difference between last years’s budget and the proposed budget could not be established.
  • As per the Asha Seattle’s financial policy no increment in budget can be made until there is an exceptional reason.
  • Manohita is working with Vikasana to lower down the budget and verify a few things in proposed budget.

 

 

Action Item: Srijan to double check the $ figures for last year’s budget and establish the different between last year’s amount and this year’s proposed budget.

Agenda Item 3: Chapter Updates

-          No updates from Chapter Coords

-          Project Coords updates:

o        Project Coordinator’s workshop coming up in March, a date is yet to be fixed.

o        New Project  Stewards are required. Contcat Vijay for details.

o        Geetanjali Preparations in progress.

 

-          PR updates:

o        Fundraising PR meetings are scheduled to happen every Sunday at 10:30 AM. This week’s meeting is being hosted by Bindu at her place in Bellevue.

o        PR team is working to identify organizations other than MS for Give Campaigns.

 

 

 

Agenda Item 4: GRAVIS

Presenter: Mike and Sandeep

 

Purpose: Updates on Project from Site Visit

 

Mike and Sandeep provided a detailed Site Visit report. They provided information on project goals, progress and how the project is being carried out in Jodhpur.

 

Decision Status: N/A

 

 

Agenda Item 5: Bhoomiheen Sewa Samiti 

Presenter: Srijan

 

Purpose: An individual contributor wants to make donation supplement the teacher's salary for the school run by Bhoomiheen Sewa Samiti. Decision to be made weather to go with this change or not?

 

-          Srijan provided background of the project and how this change will affect the project.

-          The donor has pledged to support teacher’s salary increment for nest 3 years

-          Team had concerns about the roll back in teacher’s salary after 3 years.

 

Decision status: Agreed. 14 yes, 1 abstained

 

 

Agenda Item 6: Partnerhsip with SAM for Gardens and Cosmos Exhibit

Presenter: Pooja and Satyajit

 

Purpose: decision to be made on whether or not go for an informal non-profit partnership with Seattle Art Museum.

 

-          SAM is running an Exhibition on Indian Painting from Jodhpur from Jan 29 through April 26th 2009.

-          This exhibition also includes a presentation of pictures under the title “Contemporary life in Jodhpur”

-          No Admission free on Feb 7, March 7 and April 4 for this exhibition.

-          Asha Seattle has asked SAM to let us exhibit or present about Asha and GRAVIS project and changes made in the region by this project, on free admission Saturdays. SAM is yet to confirm on this request.

-          Volunteers required to talk about Asha if SAM agrees to this proposal. Please contact Satyajit for details and schedule.
