Summary Started in Bhopal Abandoned kids, run away kids etc. Started rehabilitating girls also Two buildings Girls are moved into the new facility Boys - From old to new slowly - because more resistant Funding for the past 2 years Happy with the project so far 187 children in the house Toddlers to 19 year kids Formal education support and vocational training Child home, children go to different schools Very polite kids They asked for some extra funds for some better schools - no funding for extra fees Total amount we fund : 10,400$ Per kid - 10400/187=-55.615 No need to vote Annual presentation
August 2007 Site Visit Only problem - couldn't go unannounced Sunday -Asha's cousin - Ajay. Alka. Both manage the school Kavitha went to their home and followed them Building - nice, well constructed. Good impression Kids were there Rose flowers were made. Presented to Kavitha Kids were not shy. Kids were curious to show around dorms, kitchen etc. No cleaning by kids. Paid staff takes care of the cleaning Girls upstairs, Boys downstairs. Gate locked in the night. Computer lab. Little kids playing with computers Older kids - being taught Office Medium, syllabus - different Vocational training - didn't see Artifacts were made. Girls more interested. Made a few. Was happy with the project

Questions Why 2 year old kids are in the school? Parents usually can't take care of them. More than run-away Who did the site visit? Kavitha Funding comes from where? Germany, private donors 10,000$ What fraction do we provide? Can't tell. We have financial data. Couldn't figure it out. Boys and Girls different? Same building , two different floors. Gate Adults? 19-20 year olds. Some of them. Any other activities? Tutors, training, vocational training - carpentry. One of the kids was building cabinets. Good job How's the performance in the school? Doing well. One passed standard 11 with 80%, one in engineering school. Can we work with the schools directly from Asha? Possible. Does someone stay with the kids stay there? Warden, security. Alka comes every day. Ajay comes every week. Proper office. School bus etc. How often do the parents visit the kids? Some they don't know the parents for. If they come, they take back, sometimes ALGo's pictures? Yes, not many. Video, if possible. How old are the kids? Toddlers to teens How often the funders visit? Not sure. Every year. They are on top of it.

Operational Stats 14 operations 750 children 40 teachers, 3 admin staff Students and teachers pay Rs 1/day 3 wheeler - used for everything Driven by one of the occupants School dropout arrested 100% pass rate for all PWHY Topper in higher secondary secured 11th position in Delhi! Exposure to computers etc.
August 2008 Site Visit Positives: Goal oriented education - right for a kid Visited 6 schools. Children seemed well-behaved. Didn't spend much time with kids Great enterprise providing education for underprivileged children Negatives (Just Yellow, not Red): English language Donor wasn't thanked or didn't receive a receipt
Impact of Asha Funding W&C Center opened (8 new staff) Many centered expanded (5 new teachers) Director spent time on sustainability - started Planet WHY and bought land. New sponsors for new programs. Vocational training programs and additional assistance to special section.
Funding Requests Vastly expanded services 150 more children Total for 2008-2009 - $31K out of 82 (Last year we funded $24K out of $64K in 2007-2008) Slightly high on salaries October to September year
Approved Decision Just what ever it was approved for the last year - INR - 9.36 Lakhs

Questions What is Planet Why Boarding House for? Destitute kids. Women, children and also for visitors - tourism + charity Teachers are paid? Yes. 1500-2500 Rs/month. 12th and 10th and less than 10 teachers education. Why English? Local medium is Hindi. We couldn't communicate in English How does 10% Delhi thing fit in? They gave up after consistent failures. Parivarthan type reservation couldn't be implemented in this school. Emailed Theresa. Will follow up. WNC? Women and Children center WNC part of Planet Why? Questions 3% of what? Her income Legal problems? Just an add, right? She won't get a receipt. Unrelated Business Income Tax. It's not funding raising. Services advertising revenue. Is this worth? Do we need advertising from Asha Seattle? Probably? Other chapters do this type of Ads. We need structure. Consult from Asha Legal? Yes, probably Donation? Receipt? Tulika will follow up.
