Minutes of Asha Seattle meeting on 07/30/08

Hemophilia Society- Bangalore:

Presented by Nagendra:

·        Nagendra presented the details surrounding the need for money.

·        Megha questioned the uniqueness of the organization in Bangalore.

·        Srijan wanted to know what questions were raised in the last meeting.

·        The funding requested is for a Physiotherapist salary.

·        Additional funds were requested for support a child initiative for some of the children associated with the organization.

·        Nagendra to follow up with Soumya on Support child.

·        Jayashree suggested this to Asha.

·        Site Visit pending.

Presented by Binay:

 

·        This is for re-approval

·        Binay informed that he is fully satisfied with the progress of this initiative

·        Ken was curious as to why no funding was required for 2 years and Binay clarified this.

·        The need for money now is owing to Staffing requirement.

·        Initiative being supervised by Jayashree.

·        Megha was concerned about having workshops or conferences focusing on disabled children and suggested that this be included as Asha Seattle focuses on disabled children.

·        General approval to continue for $3000.00

Chapter Update:

Presented by Binay:

·        Sunday Meeting revival.

·        Giving Campaign at Microsoft (Need more Volunteers)

·        Try to raise 25% more.

·        Palani and Binay will drive the giving Campaign.

·        Separate meeting on 08/06/08 for finance review

·        Honeywell (unlimited budget for India)

·        Talk on Saturday (Ruchi Verma) at Microsoft Campus.

·        West coast conference during Labor Day weekend.

·        Asha Picnic (Volunteers already in place)

 

GRAVIS (Water Health and Education for Women and Children of Thar):

Presented by Sandeep and Rekha:

·        This is a new presentation.

·        Proposed Activities:

o       Construction of Water Tanks

o       Organization of Immunization and Medical Camps

o       Setting up Schools for Children

o       Formation of Self Help Group

·        There was question on how many tanks will Asha fund ?

·        Sandeep informed that these tanks or Tankas as they are called are for storage of rain water.

·        Site Visit was complete (done by Vivek)

·        Vivek suggested that Asha support the survey cost (RS 10000.00)

·        Sandeep provided all the details about the Tanka including pictures and write up on Tanakas

·        This design of Tankas is proven to work well in these areas (3047 Tankas have already been constructed by GRAVIS)

·        Site visit agreed with the need for Tankas (Agriculture is the prime occupation and this will aid that cause) and that they are genuine.

·        Theresa enquired about the response from locals to the work done by GRAVIS and Sandeep informed that they are very receptive.

·        Discussion what is a Self Help Group and Sandeep clarified on this.

·        Nagendra wanted to know if the self help group can sustain after GRAVIS exits, Sandeep informed that they are self sufficient after 2 years.

·        Site Visit suggested that Asha should be informed about the details of vocational training so that Asha can pitch in.

·        Total budget for one year (9 Tankas) is $ 407,000.00.

·        Asha will be sole supporter for 18 Tankas and there are other donors for rest.

·        Went in for voting with a consensus that the presentation will be completed later.
