Minutes of Asha Seattle meeting on 05/07/08

1) Presenter:  Shailesh Priority:  must Time:  30 minutes  

Name of the Group:  Spastics Society of Karnataka Established:  1982 With Asha  1996

Location:  Bangalore, Karnataka

Shailesh did a site visit report regarding this project which catered to Active Daily Living (ADL), Gross Motor Skills, Socializing Skills and Non-Verbal Communications of developmentally challenged children. The presentation was regarding Kempapura Agrahara and Harohalli – Vidya Project. The former is an Appropriate Learning Project. There are infrastructural challenges like space and facilities, but on the whole it is a well-managed facility. The latter is a s school for minor learning disabilities and are therefore kept in the mainstream classrooms with some additional attention. The recommendation is to continue support for another year as the group is doing a fair job given the circumstances. 2) Presenter: Soumya Ganapathy/ Nagendra Singh Priority: must Time: 45 minutes

Name of the Group: Reviving Hope Established: 1983 With Asha (2000)

Location: Bangalore, Karnataka

What they do: provide support and assistance to families with persons suffering from Hemophilia (The range of support offered includes supporting treatment, medicines, health & nutritional supplements, transportation and vocation.)

Reason for presentation, action needed:

1. Represent project (not presented in a long time)

2. Request salary funding for physiotherapist

3. Discuss SAC

Finance: physiotherapist salary - $ 16000 rupees/month

The project is to provide support and assistance to people suffering from hemophilia. The purpose was to request funding for 2 components:

 

a. Fund for pay increase for the physiotherapist from Rs. 7500 pm to Rs.15000 pm, Average physiotherapist salary is Rs. 25000 pm.

b. SAC

 

Questions asked:

Why is there a net earnings over expenditure?

2006 -- Rs. 150,231.00

2007 -- Rs. 429,332.00

·         Are there any other sources of funding?

·         What is the Hemophilia society planning to do with the monies in their bank account?

·         Why can they not use the monies in the bank to fund the physiotherapist?

3) Presenter: Suma/Shayon/Subhashish/Aparajita  Priority: Must  Time: 45 min  

Name of the Group:CMS  Established: 1984 With Asha: 1994

Location: Basanti & Gosaba block (Sundarban), S 24 Pgns, West Bengal

What they do: CMS works to build a self-reliant community with focus on women's groups. Asha's partnership with them include many schools (mostly pre-primary), a child-home & a hospital.

Reason for presentation, action needed: Funding for SBB, SSB, NFE, boys home & special children subprojects

At the Asha meeting on April 23rd, there was a vote to increasing the budget of each subproject by upt o 20%. The following subprojects were presented for approval:

 

Sarada Balika Bidyalaya (SBB) (girls school) = Rs. 9,31,270

Surendra Smriti Bidyaniketan (SSB) (school in Amlamethi) = Rs. 12,08,965

Boy's home = Rs. 261,375

 

All the three projects were approved.
