Minutes of Asha Seattle meeting on 11/28/07 Venue : RTC LWSD No 414, Morton Johnson Room, Redmond, WA Attendees: Binay, Swati, Subhasish, Ken, Srijan, Megha Uthnau Site visit report – Presented by Swati § Swati talked about her visit to Uthnau in West Bengal. § Uthnau is a group that help Santhali children cope with education through their own language, providing health-care & raising community awareness towards sustainable development of the region. Their focus includes fighting for the rights of adibashis & developing sustainable alternatives to mining. § Swati gave a brief history of the group and their work and how her involvement with the project had been starting 2001. There are three primary areas that Asha Seattle support - few early childhood education centers, Creche and a couple of tution centers. There were many questions on their long term goal of sustainability and different other problems faced by the tribal community at large.
