Minutes of Asha Seattle meeting on 9/16/07 Venue : Redmond Regional Library, Redmond, WA Attendees: Gaurav Doshi, Kunal Mahajan, Bhavana, Satayjit Nath, Praveen, Harish, Srijan, Shuma Update on Parijat Academy - a school for under privileged children Presenter: Satyajit Nath / Bhavna Krishan Location: Pamohi, P.O. Garchuk, Guwahati, Assam Reason for presentation, action needed: Follow up with responses to questions raised in the Sep 5 review. School needs funds for 1. Teacher salaries and 2. To construct pucca class rooms Asha-DC will most likely approve the funds for (1). Requesting Asha-Seattle to approve funds for (2) Size: 15 teachers and 192 students Site visit status: Yes by Ankur Bora, TX (2006), Biju Borboruah of Asha Darshan (Aug 2007) Project page: http://www.ashanet.org/projects/projects-view.php?p=758 (needs some updates in coordination with Asha-Atlanta) Notes · Proposal reviewed 5th of September · Prarijat conducted a conference call with Unmesh Sharma o Conclusion : need for funds though passion exists o Legal issues with the ownership of the project land. Land is owned by father of Mr. Uttam and needs to transfer the ownership to organization · Site visit: August 2007 by Biju Borboruah · Asha DC and Asha Austin are also reviewing the proposal · Asha is demanding to get land ownership transferred or file application and present the copy of transfer to Asha · Question: Any efforts leveraging current government facilities? o No, but since this is a new project once it matures and stabilizes collaboration can be considered · Suggestions: Follow up with organizations which will measure project progress · Question: If additional resources provided, will food be offered to children? o Follow up on costs to provide breakfast and lunch to § primary school only § entire school · Asha - India will own this project and Asha-Seattle will fund Parijat through Asha-India · Satyajit will explore the need of learning aids and take them with him to possible site visit in December Vote: Funding approval for Rs 6.3 lakhs to build 4 class rooms (2000 sq.ft) and small recurring charge Yes – 8, No – 0, Abstain – 0 Update on Mass Candle Light Vigil – Presented by Hareesh Veldandi Mass Candle light Vigil on October 2 with support of Sangati and AID Seattle.
