Minutes of Asha Seattle meeting on 03/16/2005.

 

Venue: Redmond Regional Library.

 

Attendees: Deb, Rahul, Vijay, Ganga, Jayati, Ken, Vibhavaree, Kavita, Sujatha, Ashita, Vani, Swati, Srijan, Paramita, Arindam, Shayon, Venky, Ravi, Sairam, Vidyanand, Sree.

 

  1. Vigyan Ashram (Rahul)
    1. Funding for the Vigyan Ashram coordinator was discussed.
    2. Rahul went over the role of the coordinator, which involves, among other things, spreading the IBT course to other schools in the region and periodically checking up with those schools in the future.
    3. The expected budget for the coordinator's salary is Rs. 1,40,000.
    4. A vote was taken on the condition that the budget would be clarified. (Two Abstains and 15 Yes)
    5. Funding a part of the expense of schools that have the IBT course in place.
    6. This proposal deals with funding the teachers salaries for  Gramin Tantragyan Sanstha - an IBT school founded by a former Vigyan Ashram coordinator.
    7. Several questions were raised about what the miscellaneous item in the budget referred to and how this new school is comparable to Vigyan Ashram.
    8. A vote was taken to shelve this item until the next meeting.
  2. WAH (Ravi)
    1. We took a vote on whether we should submit a project for WAH.
    2. It was decided that Seattle wouldn't select a project for WAH this year and all the funds raised would be equally distributed between all the projects. (13 Yes)
    3. Volunteers needed for WAH – 2005 Chapter Coordinator -- Jayati is our new WAH Coordinator.
  3. SAS (Srijan)
    1. Change in the budget for an ECE school was discussed.
    2. We took a vote on increasing the teachers' salary from Rs. 300 to Rs. 500 and also on increasing the cost of tiffin from Rs. 1 to Rs. 2. (Three Abstain and 21 Yes)
  4. Mobile Library Project by Ravi Aluganti (Asha Seattle Fellow)
    1. Need funds for 2005 expenses.
    2. We took a vote to bring it again to the next meeting as we ran out of time.
