Amit: Presented site visit report when he visited
Ravi Allugunti.
* works with 15 govt schools and tries to improve
quality of education
* Ravi makes very good teaching aids &
trains teachers in govt schools.
* Amit talked about where Ravi
studied and the method of learning there.
* we funded mobile library project. Library is a van(maruti van) where
there are books & it goes around.
There is a reading session and books are given to children.
Local language children's books. ~500 books.
* Amit visited 3 schools with Ravi.
2-3 hours in each school.
* Ravi also keeps track of students progress. (reading habits of
particular children)
* Problems with the project: -- government school teachers get
transferred after some period so continuity is a problem.
-- he can only go 2-3 times each week
-- how to improve his impact?
-- he is stretched out too thin.
-- Need to find right persons for some work
such as librarian.
* Next Step: Own school which will be model and will be a resource center.
* Time Frame: Middle of the year.
Swati: AIF (America-India foundation) raises funds
for development/activites in India. AIF
contacted Swati. And the person will come to seattle
next week.
SPS needs 20 lakhs for its project.
AIF
wants to do a jointfund-raiser with Asha Seattle.

180 students in balwadi.
target Group: 3-5 from slumps around thane district
add 10 more balwadis. 30 per balwadi.
Asha Stanford presently supporting. But need more
funds. Partial
support also ok.
Laxmi: Update on digantar.

need of graphic embossing software. ~$175. Approved.
Swati: Vikram Sheela training for CMS teachers. Need of $1000 for this.
Out of the presently estimated $21K earmarked for CMS $1K will go for
training.
