Minutes from the Asha meeting on 01/08/2004
Venue: Steven's Court Commons.

Participants: Arindam, Srijan, Swati, Shailendra, Preeti, Venky, Binay,
Sri, Raj, Rahul, Tapoja, Jayant.



Shailendra talked about the Anamika Concert in association with the
South Asia Student's Association on 24th of January. The concert is
going to be held at the HUB auditorium. Discussions centered around the
possibility of setting up booths for raising funds, distributing
information, selling tea/food and Asha merchandize. Shailendra will
post on Asha-Seatte to look for volunteers.

Shailendra then talked about the Bhangra Competition which is to be
held on 31st of January at the UW, organized by the Indian Students'
Association. He talked about the possibility of setting up a booth
there too.

Shailendra talked about Sarina Jain . The Medusa club has been booked
for 30th of January. Shailendra wants to host a high profile dinner
event with the donors. He wants the Asha-Seattle chapter to either fly
her in and out, or alternatively to let Asha lend credibility to the
entire project. The other volunteers suggested that we should do it
some other time.

Shailendra next talked about two free schools in India with which he
had been involved.
The schools provide free education to rural children. Due to financial
paucity the schools might impose some fees. Swati suggested that the
Asha-Delhi chapter should have a look at those schools.

Swati talked about budget from CMS regarding the accommodation of some
new orthopedically handicapped children. CMS is trying to provide some
vocational training to the special children. Arindam gave a summary of
his field visit from the CMS. He talked about the inclusion of ten new
non residential girls and a total of twenty residential boys.

Raj talked about a big box of pencils, markers etc. donated by Charu
which can go to our various projects.
