Following are the minutes from ASHA-Princeton meeting on 11/21/98. The attendees were: Giridhar, Shanmuga, Sridhar, Timothy, Ashvin, Manohar, Shankar, Shoibal, Rajesh, Venu and Rohini. 1) Sai presented an overview of the FODRA (Foundation of Development Research and Action) project. FODRA is working with poor households in slum areas in Pratap Nagar and Samboli Gaddha (outskirts of Delhi). Some 900 families (pop. 7000-8000) live in this area in poor sanitary conditions, poverty and diseases associated with lack of proper drinking water. FODRA has a wider agenda, but this particular project deals with starting one Non-Formal Education Center and strengthening an existing remedial education center for 100-120 students. Sai has compiled a list of questions for FODRA which he will pass on to Madhuri, who is at present coordinating our interactions with FODRA. We have also asked them to send us a detailed project proposal. 2) Shanmuga facilitated a discussion on an ASHA-Princeton newsletter -- its goals, frequency, viability at this stage of our chapter etc. By general consensus we have decided to initially publish a 1 page quarterly newsletter as an addendum to the ASHA-wide newsletter, ASHA-Kiran. Shanmuga and Rajesh have volunteered to work on this. 3) Sridhar coordinated some discussion on fundraising. This will require more follow-up work in the next meeting. Giridhar has our donor form ready and we should have it on the web shortly. Till then, please contact Giridhar at the_grooviest@hotmail.com Misc: - On 11/22, Sridhar and Rajesh distributed ASHA-Princeton flyers at a concert in Bridgewater temple. - The 1999 calendars have been delayed somewhat, but we should have them by early next week. Our next meeting will be on 12/5/98 at 4:30 at E-quad. I will send a reminder and agenda in a later mail. rohini ______________________________________________________
