Minutes of the meeting held on August 6, 2005 (Minutes by Amrish) In attendance were: Manoj (visiting from Urbana) Hetal Sudhakar Ravi Kavitha Rajani Shankar, Shankar's mom Sumathi, mom, babu Rahul Amrish Dileep (first time) Bala Krishnan (first time) Mano Poreddy (first time) 1. Manoj presented the update on the Chilla project in Kerala. The project work is proceeding as envisaged. Last year our Chapter had provided funding in the amount of $2200. For the next year they have requested $3000. The increase is modest in absolute terms and was considered reasonable. Manoj is now a faculty member at U. of Illinois (congratulations!) and active in the Asha Chapter there. Since the Princeton Chapter is running short on funds, Manoj volunteered to request the Urbana Chapter to fund Chilla. In case Urbana is not able to fund the project in the full amount, the shortfall will be made up by our Chapter. 2. There was a round of introductions which was followed by Shankar giving background information on Asha for the benefit of newcomers. 3. Sumathi provided an update on SUPPORT in Mumbai. This project has the mission of rescuing and rehabilitating street kids many of whom have fallen into drug habits. Last year our Chapter provided $5000 and Seattle gave $18,000. For the next year, SUPPORT has a requirement of $34,000. After reviewing the proposal and recognizing our constraints, we decided as follows: (a) SUPPORT is a deserving project. (b) It makes more sense for Seattle to fund the project because (i) it was their project to begin with and they continue to be the bigger benefactor and (ii) they do have the resources. (c) We can redirect the Aajgaon money to them (about ~2K). (d) As regards additional money from our Chapter, we will revisit the issue after (i) Sumathi has approached Seattle and (ii) after we do a planning exercise for next year. Regards. Amrish
