Minutes of the meeting held on June 25, 2005 (Minutes by Amrish) In attendance were: Sridhar Aneesh Vikas Nachiketh Shankar Mahendra and Manorama Patel (came for the first time) Sumathi Sumathi's new-born Rahul (first time) Sumathi's mom (probably first time) Amrish 1. Sridhar described the "Racing to Educate" initiative. Volunteers of Asha-Princeton, Asha-CNJ and Princeton-AID are getting the benefit of training from a professional coach toward running a half or full marathon. The kick-off meeting was on June 8 but it is still not too late to join. The objective is to raise money for Asha (or AID). Runners will be responsible for getting sponsorships in the amount of $75/mile. This comes to $1960 for a full marathon run. This is the suggested amount or the sticker-price. Discounts are available in the sense that a runner will have to at least pledge $1400 (non-student rate) or $800 (student rate) if training for a full marathon. Those who are not ready to make a commitment may avail of a $100 rate for one month of training. 2. Sridhar also described the loose structure that holds the organization together. There are numerous focus groups comprising volunteers from different chapters. In addition, there is a central coordination team which holds conference calls on Saturdays according to the following schedule. First Saturday of the month: Open issues (moderated by Netika) Second Saturday: Projects (moderated by Anand) Third Saturday : PR and fundraising (moderated by Minali and Sameer) Fourth Saturday: Chapter Development (moderated by Vignesh) Ideally, we should have representatives for each of the above. The commitment is only once a month. Sridhar volunteered to participate in the Projects calls and Vikas in PR and fundraising. We have open slots for the remaining two. Please volunteer. This would be an excellent way to learn about diverse Ashawide issues. There are other committees as well. Hansa is our rep on the ARC (Asha Representative Committee) involved with decision-making and Uday is on the Treasurers' Committee. 3. It was agreed that $200 will be made available from our Chapter funds as our contribution toward organizing WAH. Thanks. Amrish
