Meeting held on Sunday June 15, 2003 - minutes by Amrish In attendance were Shankar, Anirban, Manoj, Sridhar, Amrish, Vinay, Sumathi, Uday. Mainly two topics were discussed, Lalpur project and the story "charts" created by Ms. Saraswati, whom Shankar met during his recent India trip. 1. Asha-Princeton will be a steward for the Lalpur project. We are partnering with Asha-MIT (contact: Harish Chawla). Shankar will be the coordinator. The grassroots volunteer at Lalpur (near Lucknow) is Paromita Ukil, a journalist inspired by Sandeep. Her Asha stipend is $1200/year. Asha-Princeton will contribute $600 for the current year. No commitments beyond that. Amrish plans to visit the project in August. 2. The story packet is very impressive. The language is Tamil. They do not yet plan to translate in other languages even though they might have the resources. Asha-Princeton can sponsor the sending of the packet/kit to each of the Asha projects in Chennai at a cost of $12/school. We need a volunteer to take charge of this initiative.
