Subject: Minutes of ASHA meeting with CRY(NY) on 2/27/99 Date: Sun, 28 Feb 1999 18:56:28 PST Agenda: Presentation by CRY members Attendees: Sridhar, Giri, Venu, Srimal, Ashvin, Sai, Shanmuga, and Raman Nageswara(new ASHA-Princeton member) Guests: Rajib and Chhavi of CRY(New York). Minutes: Meeting started around 4:40 or so. Chhavi had come prepared to make a formal presentation, but we decided to have an informal discussion as there were not too many of us at the meeting. CRY has been active since 1995 in the tri-state area. It mainly consists of professionals in New York City, New Jersey and Philadelphia area. CRY (Child Relief and You), as most of you know, is an organization dedicated to children's issues, including education. They have a widespread presence in India and the USA. In its 20-year history, approximately 650,000 children have benefited from CRY's support. CRY in the USA (CRY Inc.) is mainly dedicated towards raising awareness about the cause and does fundraising for projects in India. Their 1997 annual budget was approximately $135K with 90% expenses spent on projects. Projects supported by CRY Inc. are evaluated and decided for funding by a central project review committee in India. 10% of the money raised go towards projects based in the US. For more info, please visit their website at http://www.cry.org. Rajib and Chhavi expressed interest in getting exposure for CRY amongst the Princeton student community. The fact that CRY has mostly working-professional members, and ASHA-Princeton has a fairly diverse mix of both Princeton students as well as working professionals, seems to provide tremendous opportunities for synergy. We agreed to exchange our mailing lists so that we can expand our target audience. Also, we agreed to pool our resources together for fundraising activities, specifically for a fundraising concert in September, as well as publicity activities, that tie in with the any fundraising activity carried out by both organizations. The details regarding the concert (like date, place, ticket price, and individual responsibilities) were not discussed. We also agreed to plan the event so it would target a broad based audience. Chhavi also mentioned about the possibility of a joint movie screening in NYC/ Jersey area. One more area of collaboration would be in the project monitoring area. CRY, with its extensive volunteer base can act as our liaison for some of our projects in India. ASHA Princeton can work with CRY-NY if they would like reports on their projects. We thank Rajib and Chhavi for taking their time to visit us and make the presentation. We look forward to working with CRY-NY towards achievement of our common goals. Sridhar/Giri ASHA Princeton
