   Subject:  Minutes of meeting on 19th Jan 2002

   
   Dear Friends,
   I'm sorry for the delayed meeting minutes.
   Due to the snow on the meeting day, very few
   volunteers showed up. Those present decided wait for
   the next meeting to make decisions regarding the
   fundraiser etc.
   Let me also clarify that we will NOT have a meeting
   this saturday. Next Asha meeting will be on Feb 2nd
   2002.
   Meeting Attendes: Anirban, Amit, Kedar, Rahul, Aruna,
   Sumathi
   Discussion :
   1. Schedule of 'Asha Info Nite' and the fundraiser.
   Anirban and Amit pointed out that it would be good to
   have the 'Asha Info Nite' before the fundraiser as it
   would bring in many volunteers who might later help in
   organizing the fundraiser(especially selling tickets).
   Sumathi pointed out that the fundraiser should be
   conducted latest in July in order to raise money for
   Kajurdaha($15,700). It would be very difficult to
   organize both programs(fundraiser and Asha Info Nite)
   before July.. Hence she was of the opinion that, it
   would be better to have fundraiser in April/May and
   Asha Info Nite in Sept/October.
   2. Catering for Asha Info Nite :
   There will be about 100 attendees.
   Should we cook ourselves(10 or more volunteers
   together cooking all the food) or get caterers like
   'Palace of Asia' restaurant(they catered for an Info
   Session organized by the chapter in '98 ) or Ms.
   Shailaja(who catered food for ~120 people during the
   Aug 18-19 'Asha School' discussions held in
   Princeton).
   Each approach of cooking ourselves or getting caterers
   has its own pros and cons. Like, cooking ourselves
   needs good organization and uniform quality of food
   should be ascertained. By getting the food catered, we
   can concenterate on other aspects of the info nite,
   like inviting people etc. this way, the quality of the
   food served is also gauranteed.
   Both these topics, and ofcourse many others, need to
   be decided in the coming meeting to be held on 2nd
   February 2002.
